Peggy Compton Obituary
March 14, 1929 - February 23, 2025
Peggy Hughes Compton, age 95, previously of Richlands, VA, passed away February 23, 2025, at her home in Evansville, IN surrounded by her family.
She was born March 14, 1929 in McComas, WV to Lawrence and Bessie Hughes. Peggy was a member of the Richlands Presbyterian Church and had a lifelong love for her church, family, neighbors, and friends. She grew up in Red Ash, VA and was a graduate of Richlands High School and Longwood University in Farmville, VA where she earned a bachelor's degree in education. She returned to Richlands High School as a teacher in the business department.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband of 55 years, Lowell.
Peggy retired to Evansville in 2014 and enjoyed a life of comfort and leisure. Simply ask her to do something and hear the reply, "No, I'm Retired".
She is survived by her family, daughters, Debra (Bill) Ball and Tracie (Gregory) Elsner; grandchildren, Emalee (Seth) Hedges and Timothy (Courtney) Ball; step-grandchildren, Allyson (Errick) Lickey and Rachel Pearce; great-grandchild, Luka; and step-great-grandchildren, Daimhin, Melissa, Wyatt, Mason, Isaac, Raine, Colt and Link.
Family and friends will gather Thursday, February 27, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m., at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, 6300 N. First Ave., Evansville, IN 47710.
Burial will take place at a later date at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Richlands Presbyterian Church, 1301 2nd St., Richlands, VA 24641 or a charity of your choice.
