Worth Vance Hash
Worth Vance Hash, age 84, of Rural Retreat, Va., passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021. He was born in Wythe Co., Va., on October 16, 1936, the son of the late William McKinley Hash and Cora Mays Hash.
Vance was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, a Rural Retreat High School graduate, Class of 1954, a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired Federal Investigator with the USDA with 38 years of service, a member and Past Master of the Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge # 226, AF & AM of Rural Retreat, a member of the NRV Shrine Club, the Kazim Temple, Scottish Rite and a past employee of Lindsey Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Hash; sisters, Lena Hash Collins, Laura Runions and Clara Jacoby; niece, Patricia King; and a great-nephew, Eric King.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy M. Hash; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Allen Dix of Crockett, Va.; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Cheryl Hash of Wytheville, Va., and Joe and Kim Hash of Rural Retreat; grandchildren, Meghan S. and Chase Musser, Jared S. and Rachel Dix, Tyler Hash, Jenna and Isaac Hayes, Brinkley S. Hash, MyKenna N. Hash, Jordan Sowers, Blaine Wheeler, Wyatt Sowers, and Brandi Pruitt; great-grandchildren, Kamryn Krauser, Hutchinson Hayes, Colson Dix; sister, Betty Monroe of Aitken, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A masonic memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the Lindsey Memorial Chapel followed by a funeral service with Pastor Jonathan Hamman officiating. A graveside committal service was held 11 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2021, at the Mountain View Cemetery with Military Rites being conducted by the U.S. Army National Guard and American Legion Post # 229 of Rural Retreat. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any Shriners Hospital, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
, the Rural Retreat Volunteer Fire Department or the Rural Retreat Volunteer Emergency Service.
