Arthur Jones Obituary

February 2, 2012 Arthur E. Jones, 91, of Fulton, died Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital following a sudden illness. A native of Fulton, he was born on January 18, 1921, the son of Suzelle and Harold Jones. Art was a graduate of the Fulton public schools and of Syracuse University, where he received his degree in mechanical engineering. He had worked as an engineer for General Electric Company for 26 years, and after retiring he was assistant city engineer and commissioner of water and sanitation for the city of Fulton. Art was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish in Fulton and a member of the Fulton Rotary Club. He had served on boards of directors for the National Bank in Mexico, A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital. Fulton Public Library and Fulton Salvation Army. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and, while in Italy, published a weekly regimental newspaper for the troops. Surviving are his loving wife of 23 years, the former, Janet E. Wilson of Fulton, and many, many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Parish, corner of Rochester and South Third streets in Fulton, with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged for the Salvation Army, 62 South First Street, Fulton, or to the Fulton Public Library, 160-162 South First Street, Fulton, NY 13069.
