Eli "Checker" Homer Jr., 73, a member of the Oneida Indian Nation Wolf Clan, and resident of the Onondaga Nation, passed away Friday in St. Joseph's Hospital. He was a graduate of LaFayette High School, Class of 1958. Checker was an Army veteran and was a retired construction worker.
He is survived by his wife, Isabelle Jacobs Homer; his children, Thomas Homer, Wilbur (Victoria) Homer, Edward (Shawna) Homer, Roseann (Charles "C.B.") Hill, Timothy Homer, Laura (Mike) Sullivan, Kimberly (Murray "ACE") Stout and Theresa Homer; two brothers, Kenneth and David Homer; three sisters, Otat Homer, Irene Thomas, Linda Deer; 14 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters, Brielle and Jayla; and several nieces and nephews.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Butler-Badman Funeral Home, Inc., 4504 W. Seneca Tpk. Interment: Onondaga Nation Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
