Hugh Kent Bellen August 28, 2021 Hugh Kent Bellen, 86, of Syracuse, passed peacefully on August 28, 2021, at Upstate Medical Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Hugh was born in Mayfield, NY, on March 14, 1935. He graduated from Mayfield High School, Class of 1952. Hugh was a graduate of R.I.T., SUNY Oswego, and received his Masters of Education from the University of Florida. At the time of his retirement, he had over 35 years of service with Onondaga Community College in the Counseling Department. Hugh joined the Air National Guard in 1957. In 1961, his unit, the 109th Air Transport Group, was activated for the Berlin Crisis. He proudly served 38 years with the Airforce Air National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant. Hugh was an avid SU sports fan and basketball season ticket holder for over 20 years. As a true golf lover, Hugh volunteered for the MONY Syracuse Senior Classic 1982-1991, saving every year's annual t-shirt. And, as his children concur, he never found a t-shirt he didn't like. Hugh was a "guy's guy" as well as a humanitarian and progressive thinker. He always rooted for the underdog. Hugh is pre-deceased by his sister, Muriel Fiebka, her husband Duncan, and his nephew, George Hugh Fiebka of Amsterdam, N.Y. He is survived by his children, Jeffery (Vanita), Kyrsten, Karen, beloved grandson, Reilly, and close friend, Elizabeth Bellen. In addition, he also leaves behind several close cousins, nieces, and nephews. A private ceremony for the family will be held at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery on September 16th. Donations may be given to The American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Association, or VetDogs.org. For guest book, please visit: www.SCHEPPFAMILY.com
