Joy Louise Buffan

Joy Louise Buffan February 13, 2023 Joy Louise Buffan passed away on February 13, 2023, one day before her 74th birthday. Joy was born in Syracuse and raised in Marcellus, New York. She was a 1967 graduate of Marcellus Central High School, a 1971 cum laude graduate of SUNY at Cortland, and achieved summa cum laude status for her 1974 Master's of Science from Penn State. Joy taught high school in Gates-Chili for several years and then worked for the Eastern Tennis Association before she became an instructor at the college level. She taught at SUNY Oswego, Ithaca College, and then returned to SUNY Cortland. Joy returned to her childhood home in Marcellus when she retired in 2005. She became an active member of her community and volunteered for multiple organizations. During retirement, Joy was able to enjoy several cruises with her siblings and traveled to New York City and Toronto to enjoy her favorite baseball team the Yankees. Joy cherished her family, her friends, her hometown and of course, those Yankees. Joy was predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Eleanor Buffan. She is survived by her sister, Kay Buffan (Michael Mozingo), of Richmond, VA and her brother Edgar Buffan of Henrietta, NY as well as numerous cousins. The family wishes to acknowledge her neighbors, John and Kim Walsh, for including Joy as a member of their family and Cathy Flitcroft Roberts (and the entire Flitcroft family) for their lifelong support and friendship. Calling hours will be from 11am till 12 noon on Saturday February 18 with services and interment to follow at Plis Funeral Home, 33 North St., Marcellus.
