Birgit Kristoffersen Obituary
03/28/1942 – 02/22/2026
Birgit Kristoffersen passed away from endometrial cancer on Sunday February 22nd with her two children at her side. She was 83.
Born in Slagelse during Nazi occupied Denmark, March 28, 1942. She grew up on a farm with her parents, two sisters and brother. She attended a secretarial school in Slagelse and then went on to work at Danmark's Radio in Copenhagen.
She made the long journey to Solvang to be an au pair for a local danish family in 1965 where she met Frank Kristoffersen. Frank & Birgit married in December of 1966, had two children and lived out their days here in the Santa Ynez Valley - some 60+ years.
Birgit will probably be remembered most for her cooking, baking and hosting of countless gatherings for friends and family. She enjoyed 50 years of Saturday night dinner and cards with close friends. Her and Frank traveled to many locations around the world. It was a good life.
She is survived by her two children May-Britt (Joe Bakke) and Henrick (Michelle Kristoffersen) and five grandchildren: Nick, Annie, Rozlin, Collin & Sonna. Also two sisters in Denmark and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the home of Birgit & Frank (1814 Old Mill Rd Solvang) on Saturday March 21 from 1-4PM. All are welcome to drop in at anytime during this Open House. Parking is limited, so ride sharing is encouraged. No flowers please. We welcome your condolences and memories in a card that we can cherish for many years to come.
