Sue Watkins Obituary

Sue Anne Watkins

August 25, 1941 - July 26, 2023

With a heavy heart, I announce the passing of my mom, Sue Watkins, 81, at the Serenity House in Santa Barbara, California, after a short and brave battle with cancer. She was a woman of exceptional character and boundless love. Born on August 25, 1941, in Anchorage, Alaska, to Chris and Monte Haight, she lived a life filled with purpose, compassion, and joy.

Sue was a devoted wife to Lew Watkins, and together, they shared a love that was an inspiration to all who knew them. She leaves a legacy of love and devotion that will forever be cherished.

Family and friends were at the center of Sue's life, and she was a loving mother to her son, Dan, and his wife, Stacey, and adored her grandsons, Josh and Ben, who brought immense joy to her life. Sue's younger sister, Jan, was a close confidante and friend. Her dearest friend and partner in crime, Pat, was by her side daily for many years and brought boundless love and joy to my mom.

Sue's philanthropic nature shone brightly as she dedicated her time and resources to supporting charities close to her heart. As a Deacon at the Santa Ynez Valley Presbyterian Church, Sue demonstrated her unwavering faith through acts of kindness and service. She had a generous spirit and always lent a helping hand to those in need. Sue was an active member of her community, serving on various boards, including her PEO group and Atterdag Village of Solvang, where she made a meaningful impact.

One of Sue's greatest passions was traveling, and she eagerly explored new places, creating cherished memories with my father, and many friends. A lifelong golfer, Sue found solace on the green and enjoyed the camaraderie of her fellow golfers. Her talents extended beyond the golf course; she loved cooking, baking, and crafting, delighting her loved ones with her delicious treats and thoughtful creations.

Her favorite holiday was Christmas, when she reveled in baking cookies for her friends and transforming her home into a holiday magazine cover. Her enthusiasm was contagious, and she spread the joy of the season wherever she went.

Described as a woman with extraordinary energy, Sue was always on the go, eager to make the most of every moment. Her radiant smile and caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Her kindness knew no bounds, and her generosity touched countless lives.

Above all, Sue's loyalty to her family and friends was unwavering. She was a pillar of strength, offering steadfast support and love to those she held dear. Her faith provided comfort and guidance throughout her journey and inspired others to find solace in their beliefs.

As we mourn the loss of Sue, we find solace in the cherished memories she leaves behind. She will forever remain in our hearts, a beacon of love, kindness, and grace. May her spirit live on through the lives she touched and the love she shared.

Sue Watkins' life will be celebrated on Friday, September 1st, at the Santa Ynez Presbyterian Church at 1:30. In lieu of flowers; the family kindly requests that donations be made to Atterdag Village in Solvang, California, a place dear to Sue's heart.

Rest in peace, Mom. Your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
