David Shuler Obituary

David Parley Shuler, Sr. David Parley Shuler, Sr., 65, of Bristol, Fla., died Monday, May 17, 2010, at his home at White Springs after an extended illness. The graveside service will be at 1 p.m. EDT Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Gregory Neil Cemetery at White Springs in Bristol. Bevis Funeral Home of Bristol (850-643-3636, www.bevisfh.com ) is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local church or favorite charity. He was the son of the late Parley S. Shuler and Doris S. Shuler. David was an accountant by trade but is known more for his work and research in the field of aquaculture. He raised and experimented with catfish, sturgeon, grass carp and fresh water prawns and pioneered much of the early work with fish farming in the state while serving on the statewide aquaculture review council. He was responsible for much of the legislative work in that area. David was the owner of the family recreational area called White Springs that he and his mother and other family operated for 52 years before closing the recreational area and marketing the water. White Springs water is now sold under the brand names of Deer Park and Zephyrhills nationwide. Among the many hats that he wore, the one he treasured the most is the one that named him daddy, granddaddy and great-granddaddy. David is survived by his mother, Doris Shuler; his wife of 45 years, Minnie; five children, David, Jr., Rachel Davis, Lisa Wick, Katheryn Jarvis and J. Clifton Shuler; eleven grandchildren, Lauren Shuler, Andrew Shuler, Melanie Shuler, Emily Shuler, Sarah Shuler, Brad Wick II, Brandon Wick, Bryson Wick, Dallin Jarvis, Amanda Jarvis, Layton Jarvis; one great-grandson, Caleb T. Shuler; three sisters, Rebekah Shuler, Mildred "Tookie" Gentry and Iris "Pat" Gause; one uncle, James H. Sims; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
