Just found out that Don passed away last year. I worked with Don the first year he ran for office. He was an inspiration to me throughout the rest of my life, although we lost touch within a couple of years of his going to Tallahassee. Condolences to the family.

Don is truly an inspirational man and leader--rock solid and consistently steady. As our football coach at Cardinal Newman High School he did more than scout the opposition and run the opposing team's offensive plays. When he prepared our team for the next week's game, he also prepared us for our post high school lives. His spirit lives with those of us blessed to be taught by him. His achievements were not just football victories (and there were many), but the stamp he imprinted upon the men that played for him.

I was sorry to hear of Don's passing. I worked with Don from 1979 to 1980 when he was with the Div. of Licensing under the Secretary of State's office, Dept. of State. Before coming to the Division of Licensing in 1979, I had worked with the Governor Council on Indian Affairs so basically with the Seminole and Miccosukee Tribes. But when I retired from 32 years of state employment last year, I had returned back to the Division of Licensing in 1985, and I could hear Don chuckle and say girl, why would you do something like that to yourself by returning? He was always a delight to talk with. My prayers go to Geri and all family and friends.

My prayers to your family. My dad, Tommy Smith was a good friend of Dons. Don called me with his condolences when my dad died in 2002, that may have been the last time I talked to him. My mom, Susan sends her condonences. I have a picture of Don and my dad. One of my memories is of my dad's van covered with Don Hazelton for the House of Representatives stickers all over it. My sympathies to you.

Dear Geri, Phyllis and I, were sadened to hear the news of Don's passing, early last Friday. We both worked with Don as Referee, Judge, and Time-Keeper, for many years while he served as the XO for the Fl State Athletic Boxing Commission, and as the Miccosukee 'Chief' of Boxing. Also when he was the VP of the WBU. His vigilance for detail and the 'Right Calls' set him apart from others in the 'Sweet Science'. A tough task master, and a no nonsense guy, when dealing with the "Ya, Ya, People", who would dare to Slide by the Rules. He did make a Differance in the Command & Control of the sport. We will share his joy with you and others come Weds. May God rest His Soul.

Geri, Chris and Vincent: It goes without saying (and therefore must be said) that Don was a very special man, to his family, friends and the public. He had an extraordinary heart which combined with an exceptional wit. I guess that's what put him together with Geri--the two friendliest and kindest people in the House were meant to be a couple (fortunately, Geri isn't short for Gerald). Thirty years worth of employees, spouses and children of employees at the UAC/RAAC join me in mourning this special man who was not just a friend but an inspiration (and Santa to boot!). Don, your family and memory are in our prayers (for me, literally, as today is Rosh Hashannah). I assume it won't be long until Don is telling tales with the other angels in heaven.

Geri, I am sorry for such a great loss. My thoughts go out to you, Chris and Vincent. I appreciate the many fun times we had at holiday gatherings in your home.

Geri:

Don was a special person anmd a special friend. I will slways remember and cherish the times we all spent together during a time when people were what was important. Don was a friend to all and was loved and admired by all who knew him.....what better testament.

Geri, Don was one of the best men that I ever worked with. His honesty, decency, fairness and loyalty were attributes we could really use in today's political world. I considered him to be one of my deaarest friends. Regretfully I will be seeing my cancer Dr. in Miami on Tuesday so I can't be there with you and other family members and friends. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

My heart is full of nothing but good memories of my boss, mentor, and friend. It's been many days and many miles since I last saw Don in 1985, but he's always been a cherished part of my life. Many, many will miss him.
