E. Strawn Obituary

E. Clyatte Strawn BLOUNTSTOWN - E. Clyatte Strawn, 89, owner of Strawn's Variety Shop, died Monday, June 19, 2006. The service will be at 10 a.m. CDT Thursday at Gateway Baptist Church. The Rev. David Odum will officiate. Interment will follow at Pine Memorial Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. CDT today at Adams Funeral Home, (850-674-5449) www.adamsfh.com.. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons, 20290 N.E. Hentz Ave., Blountstown, FL 32424, or to the Gateway Baptist Church Building Fund, 17667 Main St. N., Blountstown, FL 32424. Mr. Strawn was born in Boyd and had lived in Blountstown for many years. Clyatte graduated from Leon High School in 1938, where he excelled in athletics and played on the state championship football team. He also played baseball in Blountstown for the Blountstown Buccaneers. Clyatte had been a very active member of the Gateway Baptist Church since 1968. He served as a deacon and church training director. He served in the Masonic Lodge for 60 years where he was a 32nd degree Mason. Clyatte was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 50 years and was a charter member of the Calhoun-Liberty Gideons. Clyatte was owner of Strawn's Variety Shop from 1946-88, specializing in cabinets and various millworks. He was a veteran of World War II and had served in the Pacific in the Merchant Marines. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Strawn; a son, Edwin Strawn (and wife Lynn) of Blountstown; a daughter, Marie Ann Granger (and husband Sidney) of Blountstown; six grandchildren, Bill Strawn (and wife Lori), Chris (and wife Karen), Bill (and wife Lisa), Patrick (and wife Jennifer), Carylee Sewell (and husband Scott) and Greg Granger (and wife Jodi); and 10 great-grandchildren.

I played baseball with Clyatte Strawn in Blountstown, FL in the late 1930's and early 1940's. He was a great guy!
