Fred L. McCord

Fred L. McCord, Sr. died Sunday, November 30.

He retired as Chairman and CEO of Barnett Bank of Tallahassee (now Bank of America) in December 1985.

McCord joined the Tallahassee Bank & Trust Co. in September 1961 after serving in executive positions with Wamsutta Mills in Boston, New York and Atlanta and with Wm. Skinner & Sons in New York. He was responsible for merging the Tallahassee Bank & Trust Company with Barnett Banks of Florida.

Born in Covington, Georgia in 1921, he attended Emory at Oxford, Graduated from the Georgia School of Technology where he was president of his senior class. He was a graduate of the The University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking.

His wife of 53 years, Sally Caldwell McCord, died in August of 2003.

Survivors include his wife, Flecia Braswell, children Fred L. McCord, Jr. (Joy Lecraw) of Lake Oconee, Georgia and Millard Caldwell McCord and Susan Lanier Alcorn (Robert) of Tallahassee and six grandchildren.

A memorial service honoring Fred's life will be held Wednesday, December 3 at 2 p.m. on the Fred McCord Family Terrace at Goodwood Museum and Gardens.

The McCord Family supports Big Bend Hospice and Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare Foundation.
