George Wright Obituary

George William Wright George William Wright, 84, of Gainesville, passed away January 6, 2009. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. EST, Saturday Jan. 10 at the First United Methodist Church in Gainesville. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall after the service. Mr. Wright was born in Ft. Valley, Ga. and moved to West Palm Beach as a baby. He graduated from Emory University in Atlanta and returned to West Palm Beach to begin his career in commercial construction. He moved to Gainesville in 1954 to oversee the construction of the J. Hillis Miller Health Center (Shands Hospital). Mr. Wright was the former owner of his own general construction company, Arnold &Wright, Inc.. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gainesville, an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII and a former board member of Florida National Bank. He was also a member of the Eastside Garden Club (a fishing club), the Gainesville Kiwanis Club and the Gainesville Quarterback Club. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Barbara Katherine Hoyal and George Osgood Wright; and his wife, Ann Chillingworth Wright. Survivors include two sons, William Curtis Wright and Scott Chillingworth Wright; two daughters, Jo Ann Wright Prescott and Gail Wright; a sister Barbara Keliehor of Gainesville, Fl and 11 grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
