John C. Collins, Sr.

Eastpoint - John C. Collins, Sr., 83 of Eastpoint, Florida passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on May 6, 2021. He was born in Williston, South Carolina to Charlie and Mary Collins. His family moved to Brunswick, Georgia, then to Bainbridge, Georgia where he met and married Alice Dekle from Pelham, Georgia in 1960. John relocated to Tallahassee, Florida. In 1973 he moved his family to St. George Island and became the 20th family to live there.

John was a charter member of St. George Island Volunteer Fire Department and St. George Island Civic Club. He established St. George Island Construction Company in 1983 which provided land clearing and aerobic and septic tank installation service. He was of Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Alice Dekle Collins; son, John C. Collins, Jr.; sister, Marianne Moore (Wayne); granddaughter, Christina Collins; great-grandson, John Wade Butler; three nephews, Andy Moore (Jennifer), Anthony Moore (Rie), and Jeff Collins (Sonya); great nephew, Tristan Moore and two great nieces, Alexis Moore and MacKenzie Collins. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Jerry Collins.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Franklin County Humane Society (244 State Hwy 65, Eastpoint FL 32328, 850-670-8417) or Big Bend Hospice (, 850-878-5310)
