John Matthew Devine Finlay Jack Finlay, 50, of Tallahassee Fla., passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 20, 2009. Jack was born May 26, 1959, in Norfolk Virginia, the youngest child of Capt Robert W. Finlay and Ruth Devine Finlay. Jack made lifelong friends wherever he went and as the son of a career naval officer, many of those friendships were forged across the US and Puerto Rico. Jack attended Roosevelt Rhodes HS in Puerto Rico and earned a BS degree from Florida A&M University majoring in graphic design. He settled in Tallahassee, Fla., and has touched many lives in our community. Throughout Jack's 25-year career with the US Postal Service he nurtured a love of acting, art and music. His early work in local theater productions kept his passion for acting alive and over the last several years he established a wonderful relationship with the FSU Film School and has appeared in many student and independent films. His infectious laugh and personality have endeared him to many. They might be coworkers, customers, cast members or crew, but they were all friends. Jack is survived by his four sisters, Catherine Samose of Redding, Conn., Leslie Finlay of New London, Conn., Nancy Bennett of Orlando, Fla., Molly McIntyre of Austin, TX; and by his brother, Robert Finlay III of Ormond Beach, Fla. Jack also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews and his many, many friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. EDT, Saturday October 3rd, at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road Tallahassee, FL 32308. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack's name may be made to the FSU Film School at the following address.
