Joshua Mills Obituary

In Loving Memory of Joshua Micah Mills 11/1/84 - 9/16/09 Our beloved Joshua was serving his second deployment to Afghanistan when he was mortally wounded on Tuesday, September 15, 2009. He died within hours on Wednesday, September 16, 2009. God blessed Joshua with a full life in his 24 short years. He had achieved his goal of becoming a legendary US Army Green Beret after two years of grueling training where approximately four hundred men had initially qualified following rigorous mental and physical tests. He was one of only eight from that initial group that was awarded the Green Beret. Joshua was then assigned to the 7th Special Forces Group out of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Joshua left behind his beloved wife, Magen, their precious baby son, Malaki Trevin, his parents, Tommy and Celeste (Chaires) Mills of El Paso, his two older brothers, Kevin Quentin Mills and his wife Kristina, Travis Jordan Mills (currently serving in the US Air Force) and his wife Jayme, his grandmothers, Mary Lou Harrell Mills and Teresa Russell Christie, both of Tallahassee, Florida, and many aunts, uncles and cousins, most of whom reside in Florida. Joshua was buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. November 3, 2009, with full military honors.

Dear Tommy and Celeste:

I just read the obituary on your son, Joshua, and was so sorry to hear about this terrible tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. You will certainly be in my prayers for God to heal your hearts. I didn't know Joshua, but I know he had to be a very beloved son, with parents like you two. I knew Tommy very well--we grew up together and he was a very caring and honest person. With that in mind, I can only imagine that all of his children are just as great as he is.
Again, I am very sorry to hear of your of your beautiful son's passing.

For beloved my son...I am sorry that I did not get this in for you last year when this tragedy first occurred...we were stunned and devastated beyond belief at your loss. Even now, a year later, it still seems as though we are in an unending nightmare. We have been to Arlington many times since last November 3rd when you were laid to rest two days after your birthday. I can tell you that it is absolutely surreal to see your name on that headstone. I thank the Lord you are there in Heaven with Him and I know I am now one year closer to seeing you again! I love you Joshua and my heart will always ache with your absence.
