Linda DePuy Obituary

Linda E. DePuy Linda E. DePuy, 57, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, from complications following treatment for breast cancer. She is survived by her husband, Leon County Commissioner Ed DePuy. The service will be at 11 a.m. EST Monday at Faith Presbyterian Church, 2200 N. Meridian Road. Family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. EST Sunday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Linda E. DePuy Breast Cancer Research Fund, c/o TMH Foundation, 1331 E. Sixth Ave., Tallahassee, FL 32303. Bevis Funeral Home of Tallahassee (850-385-2193) is handling arrangements. Linda was born Feb. 1, 1949, in Orlando. She moved to Tallahassee with her husband, Ed DePuy, in 1991. Linda worked for the Leon County Clerk of Courts office from 1991 to 1999. Since 1999 she had been the office manager for Fuller, Johnson & Ferrell P.A. law firm. Linda was involved in the Leon County Republican Women's Club, the FSU Touchdown Club and the Office Administrators' Association. She loved plants and gardening, interior design and home-improvement projects. Southern-style cooking was her specialty. Linda will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and friend. To many, she was best known as her husband's most ardent political supporter, but those closest knew her as the pillar of strength for the entire DePuy family. Linda excelled at making others feel welcome, always ready with a friendly smile and a kind word. Her wit, spirit and tenacity were the perfect complement to her grace. Linda is also survived by her three sons, Peter Mabry of Tallahassee, Casey Mabry of Jacksonville Beach and Eddy DePuy of Norfolk, Va.; a daughter, Shannon Bream of Washington, D.C.; her mother, Elizabeth Evans of Fairhope, Ala.; a brother, Kenneth Evans of Fairhope; a sister, Frieda Pflueger of Cordele, Ga.; her mother-in-law, Margaret Weatherly; four grandchildren, Daulton, Victoria, James and Peyton; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Evans, and a sister, Georgia Adams.

Mr. DePuy and LT DePuy,

From the CPO mess of YOUR squadron you both have our sincere condolences and our prayers are with you at this time of great loss. Most of us not having known Linda can only look to her son as to what type of person she was. She must have been loving and caring heart who never turned a deaf ear on any need nor would ever think twice about going out of her way to help someone in need. The loss is great but the legacy will continue to live through those lives she touched. God bless and if we can help in any way please ask.

Linda Miklowitz

March 4, 2006

Dear Ed and children,

When I first met Linda back in 1996, it was clear that she was a very lovely and sweet soul. She had uncommon grace and a gift to make people around her comfortable and to smile. In a world of poltics where conflicts and recrimination are the rule, this was remarkable. You are fortunate to have known her on Earth as long as you have. There's no question that she will give the angels competition. That still leaves you to find a way to live without her physical presence for the relatively short time we have on Earth. If you sit still and listen, you will continue to feel her strength. May you grieve gently.

I met Ms. Linda in August 2004 when I started working at FJF. Everyday Ms. Linda would greet me with a smile and a kind word. I always looked forward to seeing her and it has been so hard to walk the hallways at FJF expecting to see her right around the corner, at the copier, or sitting at her desk and realizing I'm not gonna see her there ever again. Just last Friday she told me how Mr. Depuy had chosen the three leaf clover she had picked as a present at the Christmas party last year because he is part Irish and superstitious. I could see in her face how much she loved him as she told me that story - she was so proud of him. I remember listening to her over the radio telling the world how proud she is of her husband and why she thought he was the perfect candidate for County Commissioner. She had such a strong voice that her words are still with me today. I am gonna miss her so much. My sympathies are with everyone who knew Ms. Linda, especially her family. I take comfort in knowing that she in Heaven now with Jesus and will suffer no more pain.
