Nina Castro Obituary
Nina Richea Slav Castro, 42, of Chicago, IL passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014, in Griffith, IN. Funeral services are 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Ararat AME Church, Waukeenah, with burial in the Church Cemetery. Viewing-visitation is 3-7:30 p.m. Friday at TILLMAN OF MONTICELLO 850-997-5553. A registered nurse at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, IN, Nina was the daughter and only child of Martin and Addie Ruth Allen Slav. Both of her parents predeceased her. A lifelong Chicagoan, she lived, was educated and worked in the Greater Chicago area. She received her nursing degree from Indiana University. Cherishing Nina's tender love and precious memory are her two loving children: daughter, Kennedy Castro and son, Kenneth Castro; devoted cousin and her children's guardian, Glandine Thompson; aunts, Bernice Allen Vaughn and Louise Allen King; uncles, Thomas Glenn and Stepheny Mosley; devoted cousins, Renea Vaughn Walker, Burnell Thompson III, Donald Vaughn, Virginia Franklin and Martin Thompson; along with numerous other relatives and friends. In Nina's memory and in support of eradicating domestic violence, the family encourages you to donate to: Refuge House, P.O. Box 20910, Tallahassee, FL 32316.

Nina was such a beautiful person inside and out. I can remember as a child being excited to hear that she would be coming to "Waumaga" (Waukeenah) to visit from Chicago. Nina, you will truly be missed and my heart and prayers go out to my family and Nina's family as they deal with this tragic loss. RIP and I love you all.

I was shocked to hear of the passing of Nina. I remember her from Christway Baptist Church and her mother Addie Ruth was the Choir Director.
