A Poem for my Dad on Father's Day
For Philip James Knight
July 7, 1937 - March 16, 2006
You were everything to me: a father,
Teacher, role model, conscience, friend.
Sometimes I'm not certain why you bothered,
If your feelings on my words did depend.
I know I wasn't the child I should have been:
Far from it, and I really can't say why.
I know exactly what I'd label good,
But in the real world something goes awry.
Underneath my actions there was love,
Gratitude, respect, and admiration.
Sometimes I don't know what I'm thinking of,
But I thank God you were in for the duration.
I'm sorry, sorry for the things I've done,
But please believe I know no matter what it was, that I was always loved.
I miss you, Daddy

I will miss my dad very much. He was the rock of our family. He was my inspiration and my cheering section in all that I did. I have wonderful memories because my dad loved life and people. He had the biggest heart that I have ever seen. He always gave to whoever needed. He was a true blessing. I have peace knowing that he is in Heaven with God, healthy, walking, and no longer suffering. I loved my dad and will miss him but only for a while because I will see him again.

Daddy:
I will miss you very much. Your loving influence has made a big difference in my life. I will miss our talks and your advice. I know that you are happy and not suffering anymore and for that I am glad. Many people showed their love and respect for you when you died and I will never forget them.
See you in time. Kathy

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Philip played a major role in my childhood as my Scout leader and friend. I now have two Eagle Scout sons because of the spirit of Scouting that Philip developed in me. He was a great example for me and I owe him a lot for all that he did when I was in his troop. I have been actively involved in Scouting as an adult because of a pledge I made to him as a kid.
