Robert Bragg Obituary

Dr. Robert Lloyd Bragg Dr. Robert Lloyd Bragg, 90, a professor, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006 at Capital Regional Medical Center. The service will be at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, with burial at Oakland Cemetery. Strong & Jones Funeral Home (850-224-2139) is handling arrangements. The youngest of five children, he was born Nov. 3, 1915 in Jackson, Miss. He received a Bachelor of Science in 1936 from Florida A&M College, now Florida University A&M University, and a Master's of Arts from Boston University, he graduated cum laude from Harvard School of Public Health with a Master's of Science and a Doctorate from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columiba University in 1952. While a student at Florida A&M College, he was an avid tennis player and won numerous awards. After receiving his Bachelor's of Science, he taught biology and science at the old Lincoln High School. Later he was drafted in the U.S. Army and served in World War II. He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and a Fellow in the American Public Health Association and in the American Psychiatric Association. In 1973 he joined the faculty at the University of Miami Medical School as an associate professor of psychiatry. He served as chairman of the Medical School Admission Committee, worked on an evaluation of the admissions process to study how students performed after acceptance to medical school, worked on curriculum related to behavioral sciences as needed and aided in student counseling for minority students. As a gifted and talented person, Robert joined the Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. On Nov. 1, 1991, his name was added to the Florida A&M University Sports Hall of Fame for men's tennis, joining his father, Jubie Barton Bragg Sr., and brother, Eugene Bragg. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading, spending time with his family and entertaining his friends. He was a generous member of St. Michael and All Angel's Episcopal Church. Survivors include a devoted niece and caregiver, Anna L. Peterson of Tallahassee; a devoted nephew, Dourest J. Robinson Jr. (and Jo Ann) of Tallahassee; a cousin Eleanor Cole of Miami; three grandnephews, Torbin L. Peterson (and Deborah) of Dayton, Ohio; Doures J. Robinson III, Jubie B. Robinson (and Tehia) of Riverview; a grandniece Shawna L. Peterson of Odenton, Md.; four great-great-grandnephews, Lawton Bragg Robinson of Tallahassee, Jubie Barton Bragg Robinson, Solomon Robinson and Jaylon Robinson of Riverview; two great-great-grandnieces, Tia Simone Robinson of Riverview and Annika Clarie Robinson of Lutz; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jubie Barton Bragg Sr. and Anna Smith Bragg; three brothers, Eugene Bragg, Jubie B. Bragg Jr. and Francis Bragg; and a sister Rebecca Bragg Robinson.

Dear Ms. Anna Peterson and Family,
May you find comfort in knowing that Dr. Bragg is at peace. He was a great man and I will always remember our time together at Saturday Retreat. I am sure he is back to the busy of educating in heaven. May God Bless You Always.
