Robert A. "Bob" Riedel

Robert A. "Bob" Riedel, CHA age 93, entered into rest February 3, 2017 at Margaret Dozier Hospice House. Bob was born in Malone, New York and was a longtime resident of Tallahassee. He was a graduate of Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL where he received his honorary Doctorate in Business in 2001. His first management position was with the Manavista Hotel in Bradenton in 1947. He went on to operate properties in North Carolina and Tennessee before joining the Alsonnett chain, owners of the Floridan Hotel in Tallahassee. For 20 years Bob owned and served as President of Management Resources, Inc. which operated properties in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Connecticut and New York. He held the double distinction of being the second Florida Hotelier to serve as American Hotel & Motel Association President and the only one of Florida Hotel & Motel Association Past Presidents to serve in the same capacity for the Florida Restaurant Association (1957 and 1958). He had also served as Past President of the Florida Educational Institute and the Tallahassee Lodging and Restaurant Assoc. Bob was a Professor at the FSU Dedman School of Hospitality. He was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club. Survivors include in wife of 36 years, Anna Johnson Riedel; five children, Bert Riedel, Michelle Bryant (Gary), Stephanie Wolfe, Jay Wolfe (Kim), Teri Wolfe; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bevis Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. A reception will be held at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice.
