Willard Remien Obituary

Willy was born on a farm in the small town of Kulm, ND on August 22, 1939 to parents, William Remien and Clara Koenig. He passed away on December 19, 2019 at home with his family in Tallahassee, FL.

While attending high school in Kulm, ND. He was an athlete. He played as guard position in basketball, quarterback in football and shortstop in baseball. His basketball team was the first team from Kulm to win the district. After high school graduation, he enlisted into the Army, stationed for basic training at Fort Ord, located in California, then to Ft. Harrison, Indiana for top flight accounting training. Then sent to Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco's the Presidio. He was honorably discharged in October 1963.

Willy attended and graduated from FSU with a BS in accounting in 1967. Upon graduation, he worked for the State of FL Office of Auditor General. There, he began his career as an auditor and retired after 35 years.

He is well known for his love of many sports. He was a member of the Southwood Golf Club and was a devoted fan to the Seminoles. As an Alumni of FSU, he was a booster for many years and a season ticket holder. He loved FSU college football, but also enjoyed watching their basketball and baseball games.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly of 30 years; brother, Donald Remien (Pat); sister, Esther Remien Klettke of WA; children: Sherry Remien Walker, William "Billy" Remien and Tracy Remien Chandronnet; grandchildren, Cheynne, Audrey, Preston, and several nieces and nephews.

Willy will always be remembered for wearing his FSU and Rosemary Beach baseball caps, talking about FSU football, cooking on the grill, always reading a book, cooking eggs and bacon every morning. The consistency of his love, his quiet presence and his undying love for his family.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 3rd at 11:00 AM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32308, followed by a reception. A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM at Tallahassee National Cemetery, 5015 Apalachee Pkwy, Tallahassee, FL 32311.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to make a donation to the charity of your choice in Willy's name.

The Remien family is in my thoughts and prayers. I was fortunate to meet Willy back in the late 1980's when he audited DER. I experienced Willy's auditing several times over my many years with the State of Florida. He was a kind gentleman and was well regarded. RIP Willy!
