William Moor Obituary

William Louis Moor William Louis Moor, 82, of Tallahassee, Florida died Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Mr. Moor, a native and life-long resident of Tallahassee, was born on September 16, 1927. He was married to the late Sarah Henderson Moor, also a native of Tallahassee. Mr. Moor was a 1945 graduate of Leon High School. He graduated from the University of Florida where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, the Florida Blue Key, Phi Delta Phi (legal fraternity), and Alpha Kappa Psi (business fraternity). After receiving his law degree from the University of Florida, College of Law, he was employed by the Law firm of Ausley, Collins & Truett in Tallahassee before entering the U. S. Naval Reserve where he served for four years reaching the rank of Lt. and was stationed on the USS DeMoines. Following his service in the Navy Mr. Moor was Administrative Assistant to former Governor LeRoy Collins. In 1956, he joined the Midyette-Moor Insurance agency where he retired as vice-president in 1992. Mr. Moor served as a director of the Industrial National Bank and was a Director Emeritus of the Capital City Bank. Mr. Moor mixed a successful career with many community activities including, Past President of the Tallahassee Junior Museum, Exchange Club, United Way, the former Tallahassee Open Golf Tournament and the Tallahassee Assoc. of Insurance Agents. He was also President of the Colonels of Tallahassee and the Cotillion Club. Mr. Moor served as Vice President of the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Board of Maclay School. He was on the Board of Trinity United Methodist Church and then later served as a vestry member at the Episcopal Church of the Advent where he remained a member until his death. Known as an avid Gator fan, he was a past president of the Tallahassee Area Gator Club. Mr. Moor was the son of the late Frank D. Moor and Beth Walton Moor of Tallahassee. He is survived by three children, a son, William L. Moor, Jr. (Mary), a daughter, Beth Moor Desloge (Bryan) of Tallahassee, and a daughter, Sarah Jo Moor Stanley (Scott) of Jacksonville. He is also survived by a sister, Bettie Moor Bedell and brother-in-law, W. Douglas Henderson (Judi), of Tallahassee. Mr. Moor had nine grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held on Monday, October 26 at 3:30 p.m. EDT at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 815 W. Piedmont Dr. Friends are invited to join the family at the home of Bill and Mary Moor after the service. Donations may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Advent or your favorite charity.
