Here it is 12 yrs later and she crossed my mind. I've just learned of her passing. "Doc" was one strong woman. She had faith in me and is a major reason that I made it through U.T.. I will not forget her!

This tribute may indeed be late in coming, however Dr. Rodriguez, or "The Rod" as some of the younger UT students called her, probably referencing her "Paper Chase" ethics in her classroom. I was very fortunate as a UT student that Dr. Rodriguez seemed to like me and lent strong support to all the women students and students who learn with disabilities under her tenure in the Department of Physical and Health Education. She was a strong advocate for physical education as a required subject in a liberal arts education, moreover a steadfast supporter of Title IX and I.D.E.A. This advocacy for girls, children who learn with disabilities and the importance of physical education (I can still hear her lecturing, "Not Phys. Ed. and please No Three R's--i.e. Roll Call, Roll Out The Ball & Relax." Dr. Rodriguez was serious and this ethic and love of her profession had a profound impact upon me and the profession; it helps explain, a lot, about the educator and professor I came to be, and why I proceeded to do many of the things I did along the way. After all, Education is the home of the Idealist. Thank you Dr. Rodriguez.

Dr. Rodriguez was more than just my professor, she was an inspiration . I truly loved my time with her at UT . She was a blessing in my life and was like a mother to me. She always inspired me to excel in the classroom and on the field. She will always be in my heart.

Alyce and I are so sad -- and too many months have passed into the wind without words and thoughts of such incredible memories we shared. Although too late and meaningless to "Doc" I will see you at the Fellowship on Thursday. Jerry Massey sends his love to you as he tries to recover from the loss of Bill Clark.

Dear Ali:
It is almost unimaginable to me that you are gone---your unconditional love and faith in me sustained me always. I am so grateful to you for the powerful and loving force you have been throughout every day of my life as I grew from a child to this very moment; I already miss you beyond words.
I am sure that you are “lecturing” the angels in heaven right now and they welcomed Professor Dr. Alice Rodriguez when you arrived. All of us that loved you, that you left behind, will always treasure the memory of you and hold that close to our hearts to comfort us as we grieve your loss.
Your Loving Cousin,
Dr. Carmen Myers-Bourrell
