I just googled Andrew's name in the hopes of finding a referral of an attorney for a legal matter in Ohio and was shocked to learn of his passing. He was my attorney in an eviction case in Oakland, CA and he filled out the forms in his apartment kitchen table near Lake Merritt. Later I ran into him again when he was judge pro temp in traffic court I believe some 40 plus years ago. Very sorry he passed away.

I went to sea with Andy.
When I reported aboard a navy destroyer as a newly-minted officer, I was assigned to a stateroom where Andy had been its sole occupant.
He was a loner, and so was I. So, he kept an eye out for me in the otherwise ruff-and-tumble shipboard goings on. He was savvy and grasped the nuances. An out-of-the-box thinker, he had me read The Crying of Lot 49.
At sea, he was a qualified Office-of-the Deck. I stood nighttime bridge watches with him as his JOOD. When conditions were too quiet, he made those long boring stints interesting with discussion and debate. He made me rethink.

two years after his passing, I found this obit. Andy had a life spark like no one else I've ever met. The laughter he provoked and the adventure in his heart were significant. R.I.P. Andy I know your passing left quite a spot in the lives of your family and friends.

I met Andy through my husband, who met him when they were young. I considered him my friend and worked for him when he lived in Oakland. He was a really interesting guy and was very kind and helpful to me when I was starting out as a new attorney. I am very sad to hear of his passing and I send condolences to Teddy and Ali and Jill.

Andrew's love of learning was an inspiration to me and other classmates from kindergarten through HS. I am glad we kept in touch through class reunions over the years. Hopefully his family will take solace in knowing he will be remembered with fondness.

Andrew sent me a letter last year after doing a search. I haven't talked to him in probably 50 years. We were acquaintances because our mothers were good friends in education. I remember we all took a trip to NYC when we were fairly young. I recently found that letter and was going to send him an email to just catch up. Sorry I procrastinated. My condolences go out to his family.

Our sympathies to Jill, Ted, and Ali. Andrew was a good friend since college, a smart, thoughtful, decent man, a fine musician, a keen observer of the world, a doer, and great fun to be with. We will miss him.
