Andrew SAUNDERS

SAUNDERS, Andrew ("Andy") James, Captain, born September 18, 1933 in Bedford, England, passed away December 1, 2014 in Tampa, Florida. At just 15 years old Andy joined the English training ship HMS Conway in the rank of cadet. He grad-uated in the Class of 1949 as a life-long "Old Conway." After graduation he began his seafaring career with the Union Castle Line as 3rd Mate until he sailed with the Shaw Savill Line as an Officer, and then as Master with the Sanko Line (Japanese) for six years. He last sailed with the Uiterwyk Lines before coming ashore in 1980 as Port Captain in Tampa, FL. In 1982, Andy founded Saunders and Associates Marine Surveyors and retired in 2005. Andy is preceded in death by his wife, Janet, and two brothers, Robert and Ted Saunders (twins). He is survived by daughters, Vicki (Michael) LePree of Boynton Beach, FL, Diane (Thomas) Zanella of St. Petersburg, FL, and Nancy (Robert) Nigro of Zephyr-hills, FL; nephews, Ian and Clive Saunders of England; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
