Arthur Bates Obituary

Bates, Arthur Nixon IV

March 5, 2025 Nick succumbed to a life of drugs, Marlboros, fast women, and Ford Broncos. He is survived by three daughters, none of whom know how they will get by without dad calling to ask for $20 for cigarettes and methadone, one last time.

I remember when you were the Mechanical Bull Riding Champion at the Bull in the early 90s. You always was a real cowboy. I hope you're cruising in a mercury up and down the road in heaven. Not everyone knows you loved a mercury as much as a bronco. Always remember, if you ain't first, you're last."

Brother It´s difficult to accept you´re no longer here.

Death will not divide us. Those we love don´t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near.

A good memory of my brother...

Thanksgiving was the funniest. As the chair you were sitting in broke underneath you and you fell to the ground with your feet in the air. I laughed so hard spitting out my drink as I helped you up. "The look on your face, knowing I will never let you forget this moment is priceless"

Sill loved, still missed. May you rest in peace my brother!

Mister Bates helped me get my '87 Blazer running a few years ago. He taught me that if you cut off the exhaust just before the cat. converters you get extra power & awesome hotrod sound, he even hauled the old converters off & had them recycled for me. Lots of highway miles & Marlboro Miles were racked up with the tape player blasting Lynyrd Skynyrd & Kid Rock in that Blazer, he never thought it was as cool as his Bronco though. Poured a Pabst out for ya, Rock on brother!

Sometimes there's a man... I won't say a hero, 'cause, what's a hero? But sometimes, there's a man. And I'm talkin' about the Dude here. Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there.

Take it easy, Dude. You weren't the hero we wanted; you were the hero we needed.

You're finding copper in heaven now. We're fixing to ask the Bucs to shoot your ashes out of their pirate ship cannons after a touchdown. You owed me $87 but we're all good, buddy. RIP

Art and I usually sat in the same pew at church every Sunday. I'm going to miss him this weekend. May he rest in peace, rewarded for a life of clean living! Society (and of course our church!) has lost a generous contributor.
