91, formerly of Indiana, PA and Tarpon Springs, FL passed away Sunday, December 24,2018 at her home in Wimberley, TX. She was born in Indiana, PA, June 10, 1926, a daughter of the late James (Jimmy) and Marie (Watkins) George. She was the beloved wife of, Charles (Chuck) J. Lewis, Jr., who preceded her in death, October 3, 1980. Betty is survived by her sister, Helen Irene (George) Volk of Washington, PA; three daughters, Georgia Lewis, of Erie, PA, Denise (Lewis) Clawson, of Indiana, PA, and Michele (Lewis) Hanson, of Wimberley, TX; son-in-law, Bob Clawson, of Indiana, PA; grandsons, Chuck Clawson, Mike Clawson and Steve Clawson, of Indiana, PA, and Chase Hanson, of Mission Viejo, CA; granddaughter, Chelsea Hanson, of Boca Raton, FL; great-grandson, Anthony Clawson, of New Orleans, LA; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Terry Hanson of Kauai, HI. Prior to moving to Tarpon Springs during 1975, Chuck and Betty owned and operated the Coney Island restaurant in Indiana, PA. A longtime businesswoman, Betty invested in Tarpon Springs real estate for many years. She graduated from Indiana State Teachers College, Indiana, PA, and served as a substitute teacher for Tarpon Springs High School. An avid tennis player and bridge partner, Betty was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Tarpon Springs Chapter of Florida Federation of Women's Clubs and the First United Methodist Church of Tarpon Springs, FL. She received many awards for her longtime service, including the Grand Cross of Color, and will be most remembered for her generous heart, winning smile, business acumen, and love and enjoyment of her many friends and family. A memorial service will be held in Tarpon Springs, FL at a future date with interment to follow at Cycadia Cemetery.
