Bruce SCHMITT Obituary

SCHMITT, Bruce Owen

passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at the age of 75. Bruce was raised in Union, New Jersey, the son of Anton and Rose (Wohlfarth) Schmitt. He spent the later part of his life in retirement in Spring Hill, Florida. A long-time employee of Supermarkets General, Bruce worked his way up from 'cart boy' to a corporate management position. He was also a member of the Union Township Special Police, holding the rank of Sergeant upon retiring from the force. Bruce was a classic car and motorcycle enthusiast and was active in many clubs and organizations over the years, including a longtime membership in the Galloping Hill Cruisers and a 30-plus year member of the Blue Knights organization. He also enjoyed traveling the country by motorhome, having visited nearly every state in America over his lifetime as part of the El Dorado camping club. Having lost his wife, Cindy, to cancer in 2000, Bruce found a second chance at love with his longtime partner, Teresa Douthit, who along with her children, will miss him greatly. Bruce is survived by his two loving daughters, Theresa Schmitt and Lorraine Silvestro; and his seven adoring grandchildren, Ryan, Nicholas, Isabella, Chelsea, Christopher, Joseph, and Chase. A memorial service will be held at Pinecrest Funeral Home, 3369 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill, FL, Saturday, February 9, 2 pm, followed by one last ride to Marker 48, 12147 Cortez Blvd. (US 50), Brooksville, FL. In lieu of flowers, we ask donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
