BROWN, Carlton Orin (born 1942), of Tampa, Florida, died on July 13, 2021 while sitting with contentment in his favorite shady spot on a neatly swept patio as he considered the morning yard work he had just accomplished and planned his next joyful project. The wonderful man, who was easy to like and always quick with a genuine smile for all, will be missed by many. Carlton was dedicated, dependable, and kind to his cherished friends, who could always count on him for sage advice, a needed laugh or a helping hand, while his neighbors will remember him as a fixture in his yard, which he lovingly and tirelessly tended. He greeted everyone by name and was always willing to give a comforting belly scratch to a passing pet. In 1966, Carlton married the love of his life, Josephine Spoto Brown, and they raised Todd, Dean, and Adam Brown with kindness and compassion. In addition to his wife and sons, the joy of Carlton's life was his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Pop". Jacob, Jonah, and Jesse Brown, children of Dean and Ashley Brown, were blessed with the finest gentleman as a grandfather. Pop was never too tired or too ill to do anything for his "boys", and he always taught them what was right. Carlton's capacity to love is impossible for his family to articulate completely; he was always teaching life lessons, and absolutely never missed an opportunity to tell his wife, children or grandchildren that he loved them. Despite the death of his parents when he was a young boy, Carlton graduated from H.B. Plant High School in 1959, and then worked as a short order cook to put himself through college as an accountant. At a relatively young age, he earned the position of store manager at the department store Falks of Tampa, where he worked for a few years before becoming the Chief Accountant of what became the Metropolitan Development Agency of the City of Tampa. After a few years with the City of Tampa, Carlton was hired as the Corporate Controller of the engineering firm DSA Group, Inc., where he later became part owner and Chief Financial Officer. He ended his long finance and accounting career with a 19-year tenure as Chief Financial Officer of Alfonso Architects of Tampa. We will love you and miss you forever, Pop. And, yes, we know you love us! Carlton was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd H. Brown and Zada E. Bentley, and his sister, Zada "Dee Dee" Utter. He is survived by his loving wife, Josephine; his sons, Todd, Dean (Ashley), and Adam Brown; his beloved grandsons, Jacob, Jonah, and Jesse Brown; his brothers, Lloyd Brown (Patti) and Warren Sanders; and a wonderful group of treasured nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Carlton did not wish to have formal services. Please leave memories in the online guest book so they can be shared with the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Friends of Joshua House (a shelter for abused/ neglected children) at https://www.friendsofjoshuahouse.org/how-you-can-help/donate/make-your-donation (check "Memorium" and type Carlton O. Brown).

SO sad to think that my fabulous half-uncle is gone. I am still very upset about it, and it has caught me off card. Love to you Josephine and your beautiful sons. I really loved Carlton-everybody did, and he had the best and most wonderful personality and outlook on life. I will treasure forever the printout of his long message he wrote to me after Lloyd "found" me. Although Carlton has left this dimension, I have the rest of the Browns, and being the only family I have ever had, I cherish each and everyone of you. See you in the future, Carlton. Lisa

I worked with Carlton at AAI for many years! He was a pillar of integrity, and a great man. He had the biggest heart, (would never admit it) and the most warped sense of humor- we got along great!! I never saw a man love his wife, kids and grandkids more!! He was a blessed man, and he knew it!! I am so very sorry for Josephine and the family!! May God keep you all close at the hard time!! I will keep you all in my prayers!!

Carlton was a great family man with a big heart, and an amazing sense of humor. I remember doing odd jobs at his office one summer during college. He had Dean and I laughing non stop. Surely didn´t feel like work. His happiness and laughter was contagious. I am so lucky to have known him and am even luckier to have a life long friend in Dean and the Brown family. I am so sorry for the loss of your husband, dad and Pop. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Love y´all.

I had the privilege of working at DSA and Carlton was such a beloved, trusted and well-respected man. He was the epitome of class and a great leader. He also treated employees with the upmost respect and truly cared for their welfare. It was a blessing to have known Carlton. May God provide comfort to his family and friends during this difficult time.

Carlton was a blessing in so many lives and made things better for so many. From the time I started my business and working with DSA he was a rock always honest and fair. After Carlton left DSA we still continued our conversations. He was the definition of a Good Guy! He was highly respected and he treated others with respect. It was my honor having known and having worked with Carlton. I'm praying for his family. Sincerely, Steve Shaddox

I really can't believe he's gone. My heart bleeds for the family and everyone who knew him. He was such a wonderful person and when he and his brother Lloyd would get together it was all over for the rest of us as we laughed in hysterics. My only wish was that I would have seen more of him. I love you Uncle Squeak and will miss you terribly. My only comfort is you are reunited with mom and I know that will make her so happy. Until we meet again....

It is difficult to put into words the gratitude, respect, and appreciation I have for Carlton. He gave me a chance more than 30 years ago when he hired me to work at DSA Group. Even after the doors to DSA were closed, it was always a great pleasure to see Carlton at our DSA Alumni Lunch Get-Togethers to listen to his words - he always had a captive audience with his wisdom and humor. I will miss Carlton. I will never forget Carlton. I am thankful for the opportunity to have known Carlton. Rest in Peace Boss!

I was so saddened to learn of Carlton's passing. He was such a wonderful man and could light up a room just by walking into it. I met Carlton through my husband, Dave, and feel blessed just to have been in his orbit. My deepest condolences to all the family and all his loved ones. Hold your lifetime of memories close to your heart, share them as often as you can, and your pain will eventually soften. Thoughts and prayers for you all.
