Daniel CASSILL Obituary

CASSILL, Daniel Dutch celebrated author, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014. From the first day of his thirty-four years of life, Dan's dynamic presence was felt by family, friends and an uncountable number of strangers. For example, his aunt, Ann was a recipient of the first of many golden showers as she changed his first diaper. His parents, Deby and Paul were recipients of different kinds of adventures as he grew from an infant to a young man. As an adult, Dan was a bit of a nomad. Born in Panama City, FL, in Aug. 1979, he moved to Tallahassee in 1980, and then to Tucson, AZ, in 2000, where he attended Apollo College. In 2002, Dan moved to St. Petersburg and worked for USF - St. Petersburg. If you want to join in the adventures of his life, Daniel's book, an autobiography titled The Seinfeld Coma Kid's Ama-zing Afterlife, published one month before his death, is available on Amazon.com. 100% of royalties are donated to USF - St. Petersburg. His family and friends of Bill W. are grateful to have known and loved this uniquely courageous man. His grace and humor in the face of incredible, death-defying challenges are his legacy. We the family, thank the staff and residents at Advanced Health & Rehabilitataion for the fact that they adored him as much as we did. And so as we say our goodbyes to Dan-the-Man, we know he leaves us with his usual salutation, "It's All Good." A memorial service will be held at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. M. L. King Street N., St. Petersburg on Saturday, March 1, at 6 pm. Dan is survived by his mother, Deby Cassill; and, in age order, his aunts, Ann Hogan, Nora Akerberg and Lynn Akerberg; his uncles, Dan Hogan, Jon Akerberg and Lon Akerberg; and his cousins, Casie Akerberg Kindl, Nick Akerberg, Clinton Akerberg, Chris Kelley and Alex Akerberg. www.andersonmcqueen.com

Our family knowing Dan as a little boy is just a snapshot in time -- but one we will carry with us and cherish always. We remember the good times we shared with Deby, Paul and Daniel in Tallahassee. Alison and Daniel had the best of times playing together. Love, Bob and Susie

I remember Dan and his mom had these rescue greyhounds that Dan absolutely loved. I remembered playing on the railroad tracks after school with my friend and squishing pennies under the train tracks. We went to school together at Hartsfield Elementary, in Tallahassee Florida. I was good friends with him, and its like a piece of me has gone with Dan to the great beyond.

Dan - I have known you and loved you as if you were my own for over half of your life. You taught me many lessons about humor overcoming adversity and maintaining your independence and dignity despite needing help. You were so lucky to have a family that adored you, especially a mother and an aunt who stood by you until the end. Wade, Layla and I will always remember you and keep you in our hearts. Rest assured Dan that as you liked to say - It was all good - and we will love you forever.
