Douglas EVELETH Obituary
74, left this world on June 2, 2015 to join his family and friends in heaven. He left behind a loving family, many friends, and an untold number of touched lives. Doug was born on July 2, 1940 to Douglas Clayton and Twyla Eveleth. He grew up in Corona, Michigan where he graduated from Olivet College and then received his master's degree in Educational Administration from Arizona State University, which began his 42-year career in education as a teacher, and as Head of School.
Doug's passion was children and education, both of which he cared for deeply. He was the second headmaster at Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina, and led the school and its expansions for 14 years. In 1986, Doug accepted the role of Head of School at Kentucky Country Day School in Louisville, Kentucky, where he served from 1986 to 1991. In 1991, Doug became the Head of School at Saint Paul's School in Clearwater, from where he retired in 2007. Doug was well respected in his profession, winning numerous awards, and serving on many boards including the past President of the Florida Council of Independent Schools from 2002-2005.
Doug is survived by his wife, Tress; children, Kimber Lee Eveleth Fulcher and husband Walt, of Raleigh, NC, Douglas Christopher Eveleth and wife Heather, of Greenville, NC, and Daniel Darden Adkins and wife Loretta, of Catlett, VA; and six grandchildren: Graham and Caroline Fulcher, Lanier, Lilly, Parker and Perry Eveleth. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 4, at the Church of Ascension at 701 Orange Avenue in Clearwater at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Suncoast Hospice Brookside Center, Palm Harbor.
He is healed and whole again.

Headmaster Eveleth was a wonderful and blessed presence at St. Paul's. Rarely would he be found in his office ~ instead, he was out on the school grounds talking to the students, teachers and parents. He was a 'class act' and many beautiful memories are left behind. Thanks to Headmaster and Mrs. Eveleth for all your hard work and for caring so much. Our heartfelt sympathies to the Eveleth family. I am so sorry to learn of Mr. Eveleth's passing. His warm encouragement and strong leadership helped make my years as a student at PDS a wonderful time in my life. My dad (Charles Montgomery) and he became instant friends through their mutual love of cars, and my whole family truly enjoyed knowing him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Tress, so sorry for your loss. Mr. Eveleth was a great leader for SPS for the entire 10 years our daughter, Brittany Beel, was there. I ran into to him a few years ago at Countryside Mall at Christmas time and I remember telling him how much we missed him there. He told me that he wished he hadn't retired quite so soon. He was a touch of class at SPS and will be deeply missed.

For many years after graduating from PDS when I came back to visit, he was still there. PDS was like home for us and he was a part of all of our families. He was a great man and will be missed for his smile and for his larger than life image he had in all of our lives. In heaven, I just bet he and Mr. Murdock are playing golf and catching up on old times. He will be missed!

What a great guy - and impressive headmaster colleague. Mary Alice and I join in sending our condolences to the family. I remember well the many hours Doug and I spent at meetings during his years at all his schools - but especially while at Providence and Saint Paul's. Doug's smile was simply infectious. His enthusiasm for the field and the kids he served second to none.

My mother Helen Smith Shannon was Mr. E's secretary for many years at Providence Day. Mr. E was devoted to PD, the staff and each student. My mother had great respect for him, and he showed her many kindnesses during their years together; she passed away in 2010. Our family can never re-pay Mr. E for looking out for her! He was such a fine man and his family can be very proud if his legacy.

Blessings to Tress and your family. Doug hired me in 1976 to become a part of Providence Day's faculty. Twenty five years later, I retired. Thanks to Doug for taking a chance on me--I loved all my years teaching at PDS. Doug was a larger than life figure in helping the school in its early years. I extend my sympathy and offer my prayers to your family in your loss. In 1977, Mr. Eveleth took a chance on me and hired a teacher fresh out of college to teach first grade at Providence Day School. He supported me and encouraged me as I learned the art of teaching. This fall, as I start my 30th year at Providence Day in first grade, I will continue to remember his smiling face, his kind words, his firm decisions, and his love of Providence Day.

What a memerable smile and positive statement this man left in my mind and heart. He was a gift and trail blazer to Providence Day School. Thanks for the memories and the help you provided to me especially in my first few years as a newby to Providence Day in second grade but all the way through PD until I left for college .
