ANDREWS, Edward "Art" was born October 7, 1933. Art was called home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 1, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Kary McDonald Andrews; son, Ed Andrews (Stephanie), of Tampa, Florida; daughter, Mary Helen Farris (Chris), of Riverview, Florida; son, Steve Andrews (Elisabeth), of Bloomington, Indiana; his sister, Patti Jane Andrews, of Sun City Center, Florida; five grandchildren, Brett, Alexandra, Chelsea, Hunter and Grace; along with many other family members and friends. Art was preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years, Martha (McGinnes) Andrews; and his mother, Katherine Cooke, of Plant City, Florida. Art was born in Macon, Georgia, and at the age of two, moved with his younger sister to Bradenton, Florida, to live with their maternal grandparents. He graduated from Manatee High School in 1951, where he was named "The man of dependability". Art earned a degree in civil engineering from the University of Florida where he was president of Kappa Alpha Order. He remained a loyal Florida Gator fan throughout his life. Art began his engineering career with the FDOT. He served his country as a captain in the United States Army. Art was "The County Engineer" for Hillsborough County before becoming an owner of Heidt and Associates, a Tampa civil engineering firm that designed the major subdivisions in the Tampa Bay Area. Art was a natural leader who mentored many, he ran his company like a family, and he was loved by all. Art was a legendary joke and storyteller; he was the life of any party. He enjoyed playing tennis and golfing with Kary and his sons. He was a member of both Temple Terrace and Avila Golf and Country Clubs as well as the Tampa Yacht Club. He was a devout Christian who loved his family. As a member of First Baptist Church of Brandon, Florida, for over 50 years, Art served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and as the chairperson for many committees. A celebration of Art's life will be held 11 am Saturday, June 17, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Brandon, 216 N. Parsons Ave. A reception and continued fellowship will follow.
