Born on February 1, 1939, in Berne, Indiana, she was the only daughter of David C. and Evangeline Rohrer Embler. Betsy attended school in both Berne and Decatur, Indiana, and graduated from Columbia High School, Columbia, South Carolina, after moving south with her family for her senior year. She cherished every moment with her grandchildren - whether they were splashing in her pool, visiting nearby beaches and theme parks, taking family vacations, or tubing together on the Tennessee River.
