Eva Gruman Obituary
beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025. Born in Havana, Cuba, on December 16, 1929, to Nathan and Esther Gall, Eva moved to the United States at the age of 13. She attended Girls Latin School in Boston, Massachusetts, where she formed lasting friendships that spanned her lifetime. Eva earned her BA from Boston University and her MA from the University of Oregon. In 1954 she married William "Bill" Gruman. Eva taught romance languages in the College of Education at UF while Bill attended UF law school. In 1957 they moved to Tampa and raised four children on Davis Islands. Eva was an avid tennis player, swimmer, scuba diver and skier. She and Bill enjoyed traveling together to more than 60 countries. In her later years, she found joy in bridge, mah jong, book club and social gatherings. Eva is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Bill; her children, Margot and Ralph Marcadis, Perry and Bridget Gruman, Eric and Dana Gruman, and Elise and Gar Lippincott; as well as 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Hello Bill and the Gruman Family:
A dear friend, Art Slinluff, forwarded this morning notice of Eva's passing. Helga and I wish to express our heartfelt condolences to your family. We both will keep you in our prayers.
Helga had a stroke 17 months ago which took away her mobility, but she still has use of her right arm and leg. She is bed-bound, but otherwise is in good shape physically and in mind and spirit. She does have some dementia but is getting along O.K., considering her age. She turned 100 in March of this year!
We wish that Eva had a chance to visit us up here in Citrus County, as Helga can no longer make trips to Tampa in the car or travel.
Bill, please give our love to all of your family!
