Frank Ammirati Obituary

AMMIRATI, Frank, 65, of Tampa, passed away December 16, 2008. Frank grew up in the Panama Canal Zone. He retired after 37 years of teaching in Hillsborough County schools. He was a member of Idlewild Baptist church. He was a faithful and loving husband, father, and beloved "Poppy" to his grandchildren. He enjoyed baseball, fishing and cruising with his wife and friends. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara; daughter, Karen Basham (Chris); son, Jimmy Ammirati (Allison); sister, Joan Ammirati; and four grand-children. Family members will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday, December 18, at Idlewild Baptist Church where A visitation will take place at 10 a.m. with funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, December 19. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Trinity Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Idlewild Baptist Recreation Ministry.

I am so sorry about your loss. Frank was my Department Head at Tampa Bay Tech and I enjoyed working with him and seeing his smiling face everyday. He always made me smile and laugh. Although Frank and I were never close friends, he indeed carried himself with lots of warm friendship for everyone, and one just felt that he was one of those rare type of individuals that would lend a helping hand to just about anyone, regardless of how close that friendship was. My condolences to the Ammirati family. Frank and I were BHS 61 classmates. Frank was widely known in the Canal Zone as a superb baseball player. He was always friendly to those of us who tried just as hard to play, but were not as gifted. To our class he will always be a champion.

Frank was my classmate. He was the third baseman on the Championship Teener Baseball team that went to Hershey, PA in 1957. Although Frank as I were not close, I mourn his passing. My deepest sympathy to the family and may God keep Frank's soul in His Almighty hands.

What sad news hearing of his passing.
I played baseball with Frank and we were teamates on the national championship team representing the panama canal zone in 1957. Also fished many times with Frank and his father at Amador causeway.
He was one all around nice guy!

Coach Ammirati was just an incredible person. He not only taught me how to drive in Drivers Ed at TBT but taught us how to respect others and was a true example of that in both his walk and his talk.
