Gary DUNHAM Obituary

DUNHAM, Gary R.

74, of Seminole, FL, passed away Sept. 25, 2017. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Charles T. Dunham and mother, Catherine Dunham. Gary was born in Racine, WI in 1943, one of five siblings. He moved with his family to Florida in 1955, graduating from Bartow High School. He attended Georgetown University and received his undergraduate degree from New York University. He earned his Juris Doctorate Degree at the University of Florida Law School.

He remained in Gainesville to work as a Public Defender and later as a staff attorney at North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center. In 1989 he moved to San Francisco where he worked at the YMCA and the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper in various positions, retiring as Human Resources Policy Compliance Administrator. Due to failing health, he moved with his beloved dog, Diego, back to Florida in 2016 to be near his family

Gary was loving, giving, fun, funny, and loved by many. He was a lover of the arts and had a large collection of books. He enjoyed photography and was the best darn tour guide San Francisco ever had.

He is survived by his sister, Constance McCormick of Redington Shores; brothers, Lon Dunham and wife Joan of St. Petersburg, John Dunham and wife Cindy of Pinellas Park, and Charles Dunham of Seminole. He will be dearly missed by all including one aunt, one uncle, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Per Gary's wishes there will be no services. A private gathering will be held to share remembrances of Gary. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that contributions be made to the charity of your choice. On line guestbook at:

Gary was a smart, funny, and loving guy. He has been living in my heart forever. Thinking of him a lot. It makes me sad, smile, and grateful. We watched Golden girls and laughed together.
Thank you for being my friend.

I am sorry to learn of Gary's passing and am very glad to know that he did make that move to Florida to be near his family. We were friends in high school. It was always a joy to see him when he made it to the reunions.

Gary was a very special friend to me when we were in high school and college. I wish I had known he was back in Florida. Would have loved to have seen him one more time.
