Gordon Torgersen Obituary

TORGERSEN, Dr. Rev. Gordon M. 91, minister of the First Baptist Church of Worcester, MA. from 1951 to 1972 and President of Andover Newton Theological School from 1979 to 1983, died on Oct. 1, in St. Petersburg, FL. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Margaret (Dahlberg) Torgersen; and his children, Dr. Joan T. Magill and her husband Thomas of Boynton Beach, FL, Philip G. Torgersen and his wife Gale of Paxton, MA, Gail T. Randall and Anne T. Goff, both of Worcester, MA; 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at American Baptist Church of the Beatitudes on Oct. 3. A service in Worcester will be held at a later date. The family suggests that contributions in his memory be sent to the Margaret and Gordon Torgersen Fund at the Greater Worcester Community Foundation, 370 Main Street, Suite 650, Worcester, MA 01608 or to Happy Workers Children's Center, 920 19th Street South, St. Petersburg, FL.

Mrs. Torgersen, Joan, Gail, Phillip and Anne, I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Mr. Torgersen. He was such an important part of my growing up at FBC Worcester. Because of him I have always had Faith no matter what has come along in my life. I pray that your faith will comfort you.
