Hal showed up at the rural school where I taught Science to recruit help looking for Tetike, Lunar volcanic rock. It was the beginning of a wonderful friendship with him writing me yearly about the latest moon grazing, or eclipse or many other events that he was thrilled to share. He was full of stories about Katie and his cats . I am very saddened to see that he passed. I still have his books and I am grateful that I met him along this journey of life.

My father, Jack Craig who worked at Tropicana, knew Hal and spoke of him often and his huge cats and all the really awesome things they talked about and knew. What a tragic loss of such a infinitely wondrous mind. My sincere condolences to his wife and family. Thank you.

Hal Povenmire was the best teacher I ever had, and a dear family friend, i have seen may fireballs and stare at the night sky always, he had a bigger impact on my life than a an asteroid could have. Gods speed "Povy baby", as we all called you in school. I just now heard of your passing, I also see my half brother Johan Ekdahl new you also.

Met him years ago as a member of the Astro Society of the Palm Beaches.
I've enjoyed all his books. A real intellect, a great lecturer, and fun to be around.

Mr. Povenmire, which is how I always addressed him, even though he wanted me to call him Hal was not only a mentor and a believer in me but a friend for the most part of my life, some 45 years to be exact. As a young teenager I read an article of his in Sky & Telescope and wrote him a letter and to my surprise he responded to me and that sparked a longtime friendship as well as an occasional observing partner. He was fun person to be around and a wealth of knowledge and his interest spanned many different aspects of astronomy. His contributions to the science of astronomy as well as his friendship will be missed by many. Hal, you are in a place where the skies will always be clear and the science never ending and anytime I'm out doing some meteor observing or just looking up at the sky I will think of you and how you encouraged me in many ways. Take care and clear skies my friend.

Harold was a very, very unique individual. I knew him for nearly 45 years. We both went to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He was a member of the St. Petersburg Astronomy Club (SPAC). Because of his scientific research and activities, the club was able to acquire a 501-C3 non-profit status. This helped the organization to grow to over 500 members. Even though he did not live in St. Petersburg, Hal would attend just about any gathering of astronomers in Florida.

After 40+ years of friendship, a slight interruption. We will meet again to continue our discussions and many common interests. God speed, Hal.
