Harry Hurlburt ROOT III

ROOT, Harry Hurlburt, III, 70, a Tampa native from an old Tampa family, un-expectedly passed away on January 17, 2012. Harry's smile and warmth brought all persons close to him, and he spread his charm and friendliness without effort. A devoted husband, father, and friend, Harry was active in the community all his life including: serving as a Board Member of the Mental Health Association; a Founding Member of the Greater Tampa Junior Golf Association; and President of Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club. Harry practiced law in Tampa and was a graduate of the University of Florida and their law school and New York University Tax School. An accomplished golfer Harry was the captain of the 1963 Gator Golf Team; winner of numerous Palma Ceia Club and Tampa City Championships; and a US Amateur Quarterfinalist. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Jr. and his mother Viola Taylor Root and survived by his loving wife, Marlene; two sons, Harry and Taylor; three step daughters that he loved as his own, Tammy Berton, Kelli Wischmann, and Shannon Lewis; 8 grandchildren: Thompson, Cameron, Isabel, Monroe, Oliver, Palmer, Abbott, and Maggie; his sister, Virginia Cummings; and his brother, Tommy. Tampa has lost a great citizen and his friends and family a cheerful, lovable, giving and devoted friend and companion. Services will be held Sunday, January 22 at 2 pm at Palma Ceia Presbyterian.
