Helen DAVIS Obituary
age 88, of Tampa, died May 18, 2015 at her residence. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was a member of the Athena Society, the League of Women Voters, Schaarai Zedek and was a major supporter of the ACLU of Florida, as well as the Centre for Women, which she founded and is now named after her. She was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1974, where she served until 1988 when she was elected to the Senate for one term. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Davis. A service will be held at 2:30 pm on Thursday, May 21 at Congregation Schaarai Zedek, 3303 W. Swann Ave., Tampa.
Survivors include her children, Stephanie, Karen ( Fred Stuart) and Gordon Davis (Lorena Lacayo); her sister, Jeanne Desberg; and grandchildren, Jacquelyn Doree Davis, Gene Barrett Davis, Laura Rodriguez, Ivannia Rodriguez, Giannina Alvarez (Stefan Alvarez).
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Helen Gordon Davis Centre for Women will be appreciated. The Centre is at 305 S. Hyde Park, Tampa 33606.
