Helga ANDREWS Obituary

ANDREWS, Helga Martha (Rogers), 87, of St. Petersburg, died on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the Residence Club of Seminole in Seminole. Born in Muenster, Germany on Feb. 27, 1925, Helga worked for the German government as a translator until she met and married author J.A. Rogers in 1957 after a whirlwind romance in Paris, France, and subsequently moved to New York City in the United States. Helga continued to run Mr. Rogers' publishing business after his death in 1966. Through her efforts, Mr. Rogers' numerous titles on African American history remain available today. Helga later married Lewis M. Andrews Jr. in 1983 and settled in downtown St. Petersburg. Helga was a longtime member of the Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club and the "Salty Sisters." She enjoyed walking, exercising, fine dining, & traveling throughout the world. She was predeceased by her second husband, Lew, on Feb. 1, 2008. Helga loved children, and during her later years, came to love and be loved by Nicolas & Kady Cahill, her surrogate grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Marie-Luise Schulz and Inge - Margaret Biesenthal, both of Germany; her close friends: her attorney, Michael L. Cahill, and his wife, Katina Cahill.
