SCHWARTZ, Herbert C.

90, New Port Richey, passed away on January 8, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mavis; his son, Robert (Deanna) of Munroe Falls, OH; and two grandchildren, Judy Holter of Clearwater and Jeff Holter of La Plata, MD. Herb was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Julia; his sister, Phyllis; and brother, Robert. He was born in Chicago, IL and moved to Clearwater in 1953 to become a contractor and started Schwartz Construction, Inc. After graduating from Marshall High School in Chicago, he enlisted in the Navy during World War II, and was in both the Atlantic and Pacific on the Cecil and Keith. He lived in Chicago and Los Angeles following his service. Herb served on various boards and volunteered for organizations such as Temple B'Nai Israel, Golda Meir Center, Long Center, Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater for Youth, CARES, and his neighborhood Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). In addition, he was a member of the Masons and Scottish Rite. Herb enjoyed traveling, helping others, giving advice, and had a great sense of humor. He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor, friend, and was considered a mensch. Information on a celebration of his life will be available at geoart2@gmail.com. The Neptune Society is in charge of his arrangements and he will be buried at Bay Pines National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to local food banks or to no kill animal shelters.
