Mi mas sincero pesame para la familia Lasater..

So, my dear friend, James, is gone and I am still in shock and disbelief. My heart breaks as I didn't get to say good bye. A kind soul who loved to hug, laugh, shout out "Mariiiiiiii" and give me a big old hug whenever he saw me, a good soul who loved to dance, teach his High School students, dress up for Halloween, go to the Ren fair, collect historical artifacts, enjoy a good glass of red wine, a beer, and a healthy meal, be surrounded by joyful Meetup friends, love on his darling dog, Chico, root for Real Madrid, experience new adventures, be grumpy whenever he felt like being grumpy, sneak out of the party whenever he felt he had had enough, live life his own way, and dream of what life could be. For some reason, we always understood and accepted each other for whom we were, and I will forever cherish that, and his friendship, and the many fun times and conversations we shared. You will always be remembered, loved, and appreciated, amigo. You were and will always be one of a kind! Your smile, hugs, warm heart, and awesomeness will remain with many of us forever. Fly high, my dear. Rest In Peace. Watch over us and guide us. We (your Meetup friends) will think of you often. I will pray for you often. Esto es solo un hasta luego!

I don't have words I can even express. I'm heartbroken that I didn't know sooner-I was in Europe. James was more than a friend to me. He was my best friend. He would have done anything for me and me for him. He was so funny. I remember laughing until I cried with him. We went to Savannah and St Augustine and Disney about 50 times and Busch Gardens even more. I have countless memories of birthdays and laughs and tears. He supported me and loved me. And I don't doubt that for a minute. I only pray he knew how much I loved him. God bless his family. Until we meet again my friend. I will miss you like the desert misses rain.

I am deeply shocked and saddened to learn of Jame's recent passing. He was a friend and I'm happy to have had the chance to know him. He loved Chico, Spain, and teaching; those are some of the things I'll remember most about him. With deepest sympathies.

There is not much to say, for much of what has been said has been stated through our tears, played in our memories and felt in our hearts. A very unexpected tragedy.

Mr.Lasater, not was, but IS a great teacher. The beautiful thing about him, he never came to school only to teach. He wanted to see the faces of youth, and connect to the new generation. He was our father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. My only and rather big regret is that I did not say the simplest hello to him last time I passed by him, and all I can now say is goodbye. One should not only treat their every days as their last, but remember the lives of fellow humans are at constant stake as well, meaning, treat the every day lives of others as their last as well.

I am proud of you Mr.Lasater, for I feel you have done what many did not; cherished the milliseconds of life and left quality in between those seconds for others to cherish.

I thank you for the nicknames you used to give to us students, like 'Lunchables', 'Slim Jim', 'Tortuga', and 'Trombone'. I thank you for the jokes, undying care, and the domino effect of happiness you created without you even noticing. And you know what? I also thank you for these tears, all of the tears all of the students, teachers, friends, and family cry together, because it means you mean something to us. It means you gave us meaning.

Mr.Lasater, I pray and hope your family, friends, loved ones and I will greet each other in heaven, where we will once again encounter your illuminating smile.

Amen.
