LINDSEY, Jeannette Alverson (Gause) "Nanny"

born December 14, 1931 in Fernandina, FL, passed away on August 9, 2017. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Amelia Gause, Tarpon Springs; four siblings, George Jr., Sarah, Marshall, and Frederick; husband of 46+ years, John Dewel; her son, James "Jamie" and Wendy, her pet capuchin she raised for 23 years. She lived in Ozona, FL on the same piece of land her parents and grandparents lived when Ozona was called Yellow Bluff. She worked for the US Postal Service in Ozona for 29 years, retiring as Postmaster. At age 15 she was asked to join Lollapalooza Swing Dance Troupe, New York; instead she stayed, graduating with honors from Tarpon Springs High School where she was also a cheerleader at age 16. She was an avid reader and loved puzzles. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, and cooking for her family. She cared for every stray her kids brought home: cats, dogs, mice, flying squirrels, and even a crow. She is survived by her son, John Dewel Lindsey II (Debbie), Tallahasee, FL; daughter, Linda Lindsey Turnbull (Marty, deceased), Hudson, FL; five grandchildren, for whom she provided Florida Prepaid College accounts, John James "JJ", Amelia (Shawn) Brinson, John Dewel III (Candace), Jesse Daniel, and James Dewey; nine great-grandchildren: four girls, Harley, Harper, Harlow, and Gillian; five boys, Shawn, Gabriel, Benjamin, Penn, and Connor; many nieces and nephews; and Buster, her loving cat. As she wished, she will be cremated at Dobies Funeral Home, Hudson, and her ashes laid to rest. We all lov- ed her dearly and will miss her just as much. Thank you to Suncoast Hospice and Dobies Funeral Home for their care and help.
