Cook, John Philip

74, passed away amid his family November 22, 2025. He was born May 5, 1951, in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of Lieutenant Colonel Philip Macon Cook and Ruth Plott Cook.

John attended the University of Florida and graduated from the University of South Florida. He was a teacher at Berkeley Preparatory School in the science department and there he taught chemistry, physics, and mathematics over the years. He was also at various times department chair and a coach.

John was preceded to heaven by his beloved wife, Patricia Millsap Cook. Among his loved ones are his children, Brennan Calkins, Shana Cook, Kelsey Hill (Brian); sister, Marlyn Cook (Ben Pethe); and grandchildren, Conner Hill, John Cook, Chloe Springer, Breanne Caulkins and Crystal Music.

John was a longtime member of Palma Ceia United Methodist Church and Ye Mystic crew of Gasparilla. He was a sports fan and an avid Gator supporter. He was a charter ticket holder of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A kind and generous person he will be missed by those who knew him. In lieu of flowers donations to a service organization or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Services will be held at Blount and Curry Life Event Center located at 605 S. MacDill Ave., Tampa, Florida, 33609. A visitation will take place Sunday, December 14, from 10 am to 12 pm followed by a celebration of life at 12 pm. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Burial Park located at 4620 US Highway 98 S., Lakeland, Florida, 33812.
