Harlowe, John T.
82, Carrollwood Village, passed away one year ago on September 24, 2024, surrounded by loving family and forever remembered with love. John was born June 7, 1942, in Louisville, KY, the son of Robert E. Harlowe and Jess Allen Harlowe.
John graduated from North Miami High School and was awarded the first Florida State Pharmacy Association scholarship. He graduated from the University of Florida College of Pharmacy in 1965 where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Rho Chi honorary societies. He earned his Masters of Health Administration from Duke University in 1979 and took additional studies to become a licensed CPA and a consultant pharmacist. John served as a pharmacist, clinic and hospital director, and area finance officer with the U.S. Public Health Service with assignments in Seattle, Miami, Tampa, Durham, Norfolk, St. Louis and Oklahoma City. After retiring as a Captain with USPHS, he and his family returned to Tampa in 1986. John served as executive director of the Ruskin Migrant and Community Health Center, enabling the clinic to obtain "A" rating and increased funding. He was appointed to, and served several years on, the Hillsborough County Health Care Advisory Board. John returned to his pharmacist roots years later as a consultant pharmacist with PharMerica in Largo, until he retired again.
John was a longtime member of Carrollwood Village Presbyterian Church, Krewe of Sant' Yago, Carrollwood Village Country Club, and Tampa Bay Bridge Center (Master Point player and director). He was a third-generation Kentucky Colonel. He loved cruising anywhere with Carolyn, celebrated Florida Gators, Christmas, football, and a 3-F Thanksgiving (family, food and football).
John is survived by the love of his life, Carolyn Lake; their two children, Scott Harlowe (Robin) and Becky Bingham (Bucky); four grandchildren, Benjamin Harlowe, Sandy Bingham, Bridget Bingham, Ellie Bingham; and a sister, Gay Harlowe.
John was a strong supporter of Metropolitan Ministries, 2002 N. Florida Ave, Tampa, FL 33602.
