Ms.Gardham, my name is Mark Klaers. Though I did not serve with your son, I served in his regiment and with many who did. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I cannot imagine your pain over his loss.
My reason for reaching out to you is I manage a Facebook page for 2nd Battalion honoring it's fallen. Please look at it (taps 2/124 inf regt_"never surrender") and let me know if I may include your son in it. He would be amongst friends. If you accept, please contact me at [email protected]. I hope to be able to share his memory with those who knew and served with him. God bless you.

Hello,
We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of John Travis Rivero US Army Corporal.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Almost 2,100 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and want you know that everyone here at Project Compassion does and will always CARE.
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.

To the family of Cpl. Rivero,
Please know that just as your loved one will forever remain in your hearts and minds, his sacrifice and that of your family, will remain with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God grant you the peace that passes all understanding.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers today.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

He is my hero.

Travis, I can't beleive that it's been 5 years since you have been here with us. I still remember the time when you were a little boy,and had to go into the hospital. I told the nurses there that I was your father, because only family could go up stairs with you. Your mom was really worried, and I thought she needed me there. You are loved very much, and missed daily. My father passed on last October, so when you can go and see him for me. I have always loved you like one of my on, and I always will. I was there in the desert just across the "street" from him. I'd met him and a few other soldiers that were going on that mission a few nights before and played cards with them. We were laughing and talking about our jobs. It was a nice "welcome to the neighborhood" type of night.
One night I came back from "work" and noticed a bunch of rocks in the middle of the road. I went up to see it better and his picture was in the center of it. His friends had set up a mini memorial for him. It was my first experience with the possibility of what was to come...the loss of life, of fellow soldiers, of people known and unknown...I will always remember his name. It is forever embedded in my mind and in my heart.
God bless you. May it help to know that even if I didn't know him, he's always thought of with tenderness and pride.
Always,

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

As an active member of the U.S. Navy. I am constantly reminded of the dangers, the sacrifices, and hardships we all endure, but every single person that pays the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of freedom that we as Americans enjoy every day, I am both saddened and supremely proud of their great love for country and humanity. To you that are survived my heart and unending gratititude go out to you, and although I never knew your son, I do know that he is a real HERO!

April 17th, 2005, will be the second anniversary of Travis's death.
It is no less painful for his sister and I as it was the first day. Our lives have been forever changed. The void Travis has left will never been filled. Travis was a very special son and brother.
He was such a kind, loving and giving young man. We miss his hugs. WE miss his smile. WE miss him always being there for us. HIs light will never be extinguished. WE were always proud of him and he was always our hero.
WE want to thank all of you for the kind words and thoughts.
As a mother I took for granted my children would always be with me.
The death of either was just not a possibility.
My daughter and son were the greatest gift I was given.
Now my daughter is the only one living.
My daughter still has my heart and my sole, but part of it now is just a big hole.
The tears still come and my face stays soaken.
From the heart of a mother that is forever broken.

To Rivero Family and Friends,
My deepest sympathy goes out to all of Travis's family and anyone who got the chance to know him. We have all lost a special person in our lives. But I will never forget him in my heart. My name is Ryan and I lived with Travis this past year in Tampa before he was deployed. When I first meet him we instantly bonded when he helped me move all of my belongings into the apartment. Travis was a few years older than me and I gained alot of respect for him. He constantly gave me advice in life. After spending every day together working out,B.S.ing,and even taking turns cooking for each other he quickly began to feel more like a brother than a roommate. We shared alot of fun times together that I will always cherish. I got the chance to bring Travis home with me one weekend to my house in Palm Beach Gardens to meet my parents. My family couldnt believe how respectful and grateful Travis was and how much fun he was to have around. When I said goodbye to him before he was deployed I could not wait for him to return home to hear the stories of his experiences in Iraq. Travis kept his word to me in which he promised he would stay in touch with me. He called me on two occasions when he was at his training camp in Georgia before flying over seas and wrote two seperate letters to me while in the middle east. Travis became a hero to me when the war started and I realized the serious situation my good freind was in on his own will because he wanted to protect his country. Travis gave the ultimate sacrifice and we all lost a hero. I only knew Travis for a short time, but it has felt like a life time to me. He truly touched my life and after attending his memorial service on campus and his funeral service, I saw the hundreds of other lives he had touched. Thank-You Rivero family for bringing a hero into this world, because if it were not for people like John Travis Rivero we would not have the free lives we live in this great country. I will never forget Travis or the sacrifice he had made for us.

Dearest Pat and family,
We are truly sorry and grieve for the loss of Travis, and what a loss it is. Travis has given our family, and my son Rob, so much joy. It was always a pleasure to have him around. His smile, kindness and sense of humor were the best. When I was at the gym Travis would always come up to me and talk, and let me know that I was not using the weights correctly. I can still see him in his white tank top and navy blue nylon sweats. His muscles bulging with all the right definition, his cheeks so rosy, and what a smile. Travis knew how much we cared for him and he was so good to us. One evening when I fed him dinner I asked him if it was ok and he said "it takes like chicken". He saw the confusion in my face and went on to explain the expression which I will never forget. By the way, dinner that night was chili. Travis was there for my son and me in some tough times. Please know in your heart Pat that you did a fantastic job and I know how much Travis respected you and his sister. Our hearts, prayers and thoughts go out to you in your time of need and always. I am so proud of Travis and I know I will be seeing him again.
