He was my great friend for 55 years, from Biology class, and many phone calls the summer we both went away to school. He shared his travels with me with wonderful descriptive letters over the years and sent me the only Mother´s Day card I received the month after I had my daughter while he was on the Panama Canal. When we moved back to Tampa he told my daughter great tales of his years at sea and taught her about the countries he visited. Joe introduced me to Gabriel Garcia Marquez, one of our favorites and gave me many wonderful books, and great music. I will miss his humor and wonderful sense of sarcasm, and thousands of hours on the phone. Most of all I will just miss Joe. I promise I´ll try to get to page 742 of that damn Pynchon book. Oh, and Eeyore, I sure hope you find your tail.
