Julian DWORNIK Obituary
DWORNIK, Julian J. Ph.D. 76, Professor Emeritus, went to be with the Lord May 13, 2014 after a lengthy illness. A long time resident of Temple Terrace then moved in July 2004 to New Tampa. He received his Bachelor's degree from Andrews University at Berrien Springs, MI, his Master's and Ph.D. from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada. He was the first to graduate with a Ph.D. in Gross Anatomy. He was hired by Dean Donn L. Smith at the medical school in Louisville, KY. He arrived from Canada Aug. 27, 1967. He taught both medical and dental students there. In 1969 founder and Dean Donn L. Smith asked Julian to join him in preparation for the building of the medical school here at the University of South Florida. Julian worked closely with the architects in designing the gross anatomy labs. He then went on to be Dean of Admissions where he admitted only the best; many of whom are our caring physicians today. We are so blessed. He would call applicants who were home with their families for the holidays to tell them they had been accepted to U.S.F. Diane and Pamela would hear the laughter and tears. He then went back to his passion teaching Gross Anatomy. His students were his everything. Remembering back to exam time our phone would be ringing at midnight and Julian would be rushing to the medical school to help a student or students go over a procedure they were not sure of. A most dedicated, devoted, and caring instructor; he left no stone unturned. After full retirement in 2007 Julian continued part time teaching until 2013. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diane; daughter, Pamela and her fiancee' Michael Denny; only brother, Dr. Ralph Dwornik and wife Marliyn in Lincoln, NE and their 5 children; one sister in the Lord, Darleen Kuntz and her 3 children; last surviving, Aunt Lena Babuik and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Most of the family resides throughout Canada. God gives us all the talents. Julian, outside of his medical profession, took advantage of every one of them. He was always there to help family, friends, and neighbors. A most loving, caring, devoted husband and father. A true legend in his time. Our bodies are our shell. Julian's shell was ready to return to the sea. His soul, spirit, and memories will live with us forever. He is free from pain and suffering. A private celebration of his life is planned at a later date. Any donations in honor of Dr. Julian J. Dwornik may be made to Mount Calvary Academy Building Fund 3111 E. Wilder Ave. Tampa, FL 33610.
